Coach Registration

Coaching is open to volunteers age 18 and older. Every coach must complete USA Hockey registration and certification each season before being added to a team roster. New and returning coaches are welcome at every level, and we will help you through the process.

USA Hockey registration and certification are renewed every season. CEP certification clinics are offered April 1 through December 31, and all coaches must attend a clinic and complete certification by December 31. SafeSport training and your age-specific module(s) must be finished BEFORE your first team activity — you cannot be added to a roster until they are complete.

Three USA Hockey requirements must be completed first: (1) Register as a USA Hockey member — $46 plus any affiliate fees. (2) Complete the background screening — $30 minimum. (3) Complete SafeSport training, which is required every year. You cannot be added to a roster until SafeSport is complete. Coaching Education has two parts. First, complete the online modules: the Foundations of Player Development module, then your age-specific module(s) — $20 each, completed once per age level. (After finishing Foundations, there is a 15-minute wait before you can purchase your age-specific module.) Second, register for and attend a Level 1 CEP certification clinic ($60) by December 31. All coaches start at Level 1 and may attend one clinic per season, offered April 1 through December 31.

In addition to USA Hockey's requirements, LOEAHA requires concussion training for all coaches. Complete the training, then email your completion certificate to registrar@nmice.org. You cannot be added to a roster until your certificate is on file.

All NMICE coaches review the USA Hockey Coaching Ethics Code each year and sign an attestation agreeing to abide by it as part of seasonal registration. The Ethics Code, along with SafeSport, concussion protocols, and the USA Hockey rule book, is linked in the resources below.

All certification fees are paid directly to USA Hockey, not to NMICE. Plan for: USA Hockey membership $46 (plus any affiliate fees); background screening $30 minimum; age-specific module(s) $20 each (one per age level); and the Level 1 CEP certification clinic $60. The Foundations of Player Development module must be completed before purchasing an age-specific module.
