NM Ice Announces 2019-20 Travel Coaches!

Dear NM Ice Players and Families;

With the school year coming to an end and the summer fast approaching we wanted to let everyone know of the coaching assignments for the 2019-20 travel teams.

U16AA

As previously announced, Ben Danford will be leading our U16AA team.  Ben is committed to building an elite U16 team that will rival any AA or AAA program anywhere, with more ice and at a much more affordable price.  The coordination between the new NAHL NM Ice Wolves will be an important aspect to this team as we work to prepare players for the junior ranks, which is the path to college hockey at either the Division I or III levels.  This team is for our top U16 players only and will be open to players from outside our organization, if required. For U16 players interested in this team, please remember to go to the NM Ice website to register for a free U16AA camp on May 24-25. Coach Ben is still locked in a playoff battle for the ECHL Western Conference Championship playing for the Toledo Walleye.  If playoffs keep him from being in Albuquerque for the free camp, Coaches Phil Fox, Kyle Follmer and Keenan Kelly will handle it and meet with all players on his behalf.

We do not anticipate having enough players at the U16 age to have a second travel team, but there will be a strong high school and JV program once again, with good league competition and a fun travel schedule.  Our travel coaches will be helping with the high school and JV teams as they are available, so coaching will be great at this level, too!

Peewee A and Bantam A

Kyle Follmer will be the head coach of both the Bantam A and Peewee A NM Ice travel teams.  When there is an overlap on game times, one of the other travel coaches or an assistant will take over bench duties.  Practices will be scheduled so that there will not be any conflicts.  We are lucky to have Kyle in our organization and thank him for his willingness to lead both the bantam and peewee A teams.

If numbers support it, we will have a B team at the peewee and/or bantam level.  Ice time is being held until after initial tryouts in late August when we know the number and ability of available players.  Kyle is also available for private or group lessons throughout the summer.

Squirt A

Squirts will be coached by Stan Hubbard again and the team will play at the A level.

House Hockey at All Levels

Tim Jaglinski will continue to lead the house program at all levels and will announce his coaching decisions as we get closer to next season.

With the addition of a new NAHL Junior A team, the NM Ice Wolves, this season, all coaches and players will be available to help all (travel and house) NM Ice teams, coaches and players both on and off the ice on a regular basis throughout the season.

Tryouts for the 2019-20 season will be held at Outpost Ice Arenas August 23-25 with details to be announced later this summer.  Please check both the NM Ice and Outpost websites regularly through the off-season to look for opportunities for skill development and summer fun.

Please let either of us know if you have any questions.  Have a great summer and we’ll see you around the rink!

Jeff Thompson – President NM Ice

Stan Hubbard – Head Travel Coach NM Ice

NM Ice has built a competitive travel hockey program over the years with increasingly more experienced coaching for players that want to reach their full potential. Travel hockey is more competitive in nature and is designed for more advanced and committed players.  With more ice time, tournament fees and required travel to tournaments both players and families must be willing to make a larger commitment in terms of both time and money.

Travel teams at each level are open to both boys and girls and are selected through scheduled tryouts.  The current plan for the 2018-19 season is to have travel teams to compete at the “A” level for Squirts U10, Peewees U12 and Bantam U14.  Midget Minor U16 and Midget Major U18 are on being planned as we ascertain the number of players available and interested. If numbers allow, NM Ice will also always support Select (no tryouts involved for Select teams, but it is a way for players to gain more ice time and games/tournaments) teams at any level.

The current tryout schedule for the NM Ice Wolves is as follows:

Squirt U10 - Saturday, August 25  11:30am - 12:45pm
                             Sunday, August 26  11:30am - 12:45pm

Peewee U12 Friday, August 24   5:30 - 6:30pm
                                Saturday, August 25  10:00 - 11:15am
                               Sunday, August 26   10:00 - 11:15am

Bantam U14 Friday, August 24   6:45 - 7:45pm
                                Saturday, August 25   8:30 - 9:45am
                                Sunday, August 26   8:30 - 9:45am
